Rivertown District
[GAIA]’s proposal for Silvertown West, London, envisions a new neighbourhood on the Thames, reinterpreting the city’s tradition of squares and mews through a compact, permeable urban fabric in which architecture and landscape work together to enrich everyday life. A large park, connected to gardens, squares and residential courtyards, structures the neighbourhood and opens towards the river, establishing the waterfront as a shared space for public life. A landmark tower introduces a new focal point within the metropolitan landscape, while homes, shops and local amenities animate a network of routes linking public spaces to the more intimate settings of residential life. Water, vegetation, sunlight and wind inform the design of buildings and open spaces, shaping a vision in which urban density, environmental quality and social inclusion are woven into the distinctive character of the place.
