The Shape of Water

The Limit is the place of exchange, comparison and knowledge. The Limits are the places where reality shows its phenomenal form. “Limits” par excellence are the Waterfronts. They represent the evidence of the land seen from the sea, they tell of its history and its identity. They represent the place where the sea takes a recognizable shape, giving “shape to the water”. The Cliff, the Slope, the Lagoon and the Bound are the four concepts analyzed by the Gaia Research Lab in four Italian coastal areas: the Apulian coast between Barletta and Giovinazzo, the Ligurian coast between Cogoleto, Albissola and the Cinque Terre, the Marano lagoon and Garda Lake. The design experience worked on the dialogue between land and water, between the identity of places and that of its inhabitants, involving the various Artificial Intelligences used by the Gaia Research Lab in original results in which the “shape of water” and that of the land compare and “exchange”, rewriting the perception and use of the coastal bands.
